Back to| South Africa’s Economic Outlook 2026

FSACCI recently hosted an insightful discussion on South Africa's Economic Outlook 2026, featuring economic analyst and commentator Mr.Thibault Dormon. The session brought together members and business leaders for an engaging exchange on the country's economic performance, key challenges, and prospects for the year ahead.

The discussion encouraged active participation, with attendees sharing their perspectives and engaging in thoughtful conversations on the factors shaping South Africa's economic landscape.

One of the key themes explored was South Africa's economic performance in 2025. While the country achieved notable successes, including its leadership role during the G20 Presidency, broader economic indicators continue to present challenges. Global economic growth remains subdued, with expectations of growth around 1.1%, reflecting a difficult international environment.

The conversation highlighted that South Africa's economy has experienced limited growth over the past decade, resulting in ongoing concerns around inequality, unemployment, and economic inclusion. Participants discussed the impact of persistently high unemployment levels, the limited development of the informal sector, and the need for stronger economic reforms to stimulate growth.

Several structural challenges affecting economic performance were examined, including criminality, energy constraints, and logistics inefficiencies. Attention was given to the importance of improving transport and port infrastructure to facilitate trade and enhance competitiveness, as delays and operational inefficiencies continue to hinder the movement of goods.

The session also explored external factors influencing the South African economy, including the ongoing effects of the conflict in Ukraine, global shipping disruptions, fuel price volatility, and broader geopolitical developments. These global pressures continue to impact local businesses and economic stability.

Looking ahead, participants considered various scenarios and potential outcomes surrounding upcoming elections and their possible implications for investor confidence, policy direction, and economic growth.

The event provided valuable insights into the opportunities and challenges facing South Africa's economy and reinforced the importance of informed dialogue between business leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders as the country navigates an evolving economic environment.

The evening concluded with a networking cocktail, providing attendees with the opportunity to continue discussions, exchange ideas, and strengthen connections within the FSACCI business community.

FSACCI extends its sincere thanks to Mr.Thibault Dormon for sharing his expertise and to all attendees for contributing to a dynamic and engaging discussion.
