Danone Southern Africa Tops National Health Ranking

We are proud to share that Danone Southern Africa has been ranked #1 in a national assessment of industry efforts to support healthier food environments.

The independent study evaluated 29 major food and beverage companies across the country. Danone Southern Africa achieved a score of 83/100 (the highest nationally) recognising our leadership in nutrition policy and our commitment to delivering health through food.

Food and beverage companies have a key role to play in addressing South Africa’s health challenges, and to deliver healthy, affordable, accessible products with the necessary nutrients to enable people to thrive. This achievement reflects our commitment to continually improving the nutritional strength of our portfolio, but also the reach, accessibility, and impact of our products in helping ensure that good nutrition is within reach for millions of South Africans.

The assessment was conducted as part of the FoodSAMSA project, a collaborative initiative between the South African Medical Research Council, the University of Cape Town, the University of the Western Cape, and Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU Munich) with the aim to assess and benchmark the voluntary commitments and practices of the formal food industry in supporting healthier food environments and improving population nutrition in South Africa.
