EDF celebrated its four decades in South Africa
On July 9th, EDF celebrated its 40th anniversary of presence in South Africa. After an opening statement by the French Ambassador to South Africa Christophe Farnaud, various speakers took the floor to highlight EDF's ongoing projects.
Active in South Africa since 1978, the company supported Eskom in building the first nuclear power station of the continent, based in Koeberg in the Western Cape. Four wind-power plants are run by EDF, contributing to the country’s power supply up to 141,6 MW. 2,1% of the revenue from the wind farms, that is to say almost R21 million in 2017, was spent on surrounding communities. The company’s long-term solar power vision, called "Le Plan Solaire", was also detailed.
Energy is both an economic and environmental issue, and EDF remains committed to providing South Africa with clean sources of energy.
