Empowering Youth Through Mock Interviews: A Success Story

In October 2024, the French South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FSACCI), in partnership with the Sizanani Mentorship Programme, hosted a Mock Interview Workshop for 20 young individuals from Alexandra township, Johannesburg. This initiative was sponsored by Bombela Operating Company via the RATP Group Foundation. It aimed to equip these future professionals with essential interview skills, boosting their confidence and employability in an increasingly competitive job market.
One such success story is Ntombenhle Nkosi, a BTech Chemical Engineering graduate from the University of Johannesburg. She participated in the session and was interviewed by an HR professional from Veolia. Recognizing Ntombenhle’s potential, Tshepang not only provided valuable feedback but also informed her about an open position for an Order Processing Administrator at Veolia. Armed with her newly sharpened interview skills, Ntombenhle successfully secured the job—an inspiring testament to the impact of the programme.
Reflecting on her journey, Ntombenhle shared: "Last year, the Sizanani Mentorship Programme introduced me to a new initiative for unemployed graduates. We attended a workshop focused on CV and motivation letter writing, and I was paired with a facilitator, Ingrid Van T’Hof, who gave me personal guidance. We also had a camp to help us align ourselves professionally. Thank you all for believing in me! I hope to pay it forward and help others just as you have helped me."
Inspired by this success, FSACCI and the Sizanani Mentorship Programme are organizing a second Mock Interview Workshop on April 1st, 2025, for another group of 20 graduates from Alexandra township. By continuing these efforts, the programme aims to bridge the gap between education and employment, fostering more opportunities for young professionals to thrive.
We would like to thank our members for their involvement and Bombela Operating Company for its special support.
