IPASA Roundtable Highlights Public-Private Partnerships in Healthcare
The recent National Health Insurance (NHI) Roundtable in Pretoria brought together key players from government, private healthcare, pharmaceutical companies, and patient groups.
FSACCI members Servier and Sanofi were part of this important conversation, supporting innovation and access to medicines in South Africa’s evolving healthcare system. Others members had the opportunity to join the event online.
The discussions focused on how the National Health Insurance (NHI) Act will shape healthcare access, delivery, and innovation in South Africa.
One clear message emerged: public-private partnerships are essential to achieve sustainable, quality healthcare for all South Africans. These partnerships can improve medicine access, strengthen supply chains, and deliver better patient outcomes.
The EU Ambassador to South Africa, H.E. Sandra Kramer, opened the event by highlighting ongoing cooperation between the EU and South Africa in pharmaceutical projects like Afrigen Biologics, Biovac, and work with the CSIR.
Private companies, including pharmaceutical manufacturers, healthcare funders, and advocacy groups, shared their insights on creating a fair, efficient, and inclusive healthcare system under the NHI.
The roundtable allowed different sectors to listen, exchange ideas, and work towards shared goals.
This event, organised by the bilateral Chambers of Commerce and the Innovative Pharmaceutical Association of South Africa (IPASA) at the EU Delegation, showed the importance of joint efforts in building a stronger, more inclusive healthcare future.
