Job Offer - Visa Agent at the Consulate General of France

The Consulate General of France in Johannesburg is looking for a person to join the team of the visa service.

The Consulate General of France in Johannesburg is looking to recruit a person to join the Visa team consisting of a manager, her deputy and two visa agents.

Under the supervision of the visa manager and Deputy Consul, the employee will be responsible for:
1. The input of short and long stay visa applications in the dedicated software
2. The pre-processing of visa applications in accordance with the Community Code of Visas and the regulations on long-stay visas
3. The printing of visas, sticking them in the passports and adding the stamp on them
4. Answering phone calls and e-mails
5. Visa archives management

The Visa section of the Consulate General is outsourced, in other words an external service provider is in charge of welcoming applicants, making appointments as well as returning the passports. Direct contact with the public is limited to a few visa applicants directly at the Consulate.

Qualifications and personal qualities required:
• Fluent in French and English, both orally and in writing.
• Good knowledge with Microsoft office programs.
• Thoroughness, diligence, analytical skills, interpersonal skills, responsiveness, sense of organization and the ability to work in a team.
• Dual French and South African nationality or a European nationality with permanent residence in South Africa would be an advantage.

It is not essential to have an extensive knowledge of the visa regulations. Training will be provided as soon as the function takes place, then will be carried out continuously within the team.

Under normal circumstances (outside of the COVID19 context), the visa section processes about 27,000 visa applications a year. The short-stay visas are issued on average within 48 hours for South African nationals.
When in peak season (April to June and October/November) with the increase in workloads the employee will have to be more flexible on the working hours.
Finally, the work within the visa section, given its sensitive nature, requires full discretion.

Conditions: 22 440 ZAR gross per month + 13th month + medical cover + retirement contribution + transport premium, 30 days of annual leave
-Date of desired start: May 1st, 2022
This is a permanent contract with a 3 months’ probation period.

NB: Candidates who are not South African nationals or do not have a South African permanent residency must have a valid work permit in South Africa.
