Member News| CFAO South Africa CEO Andrew Velleman Highlights the Business Value of Building a Strong Workplace Culture

FSACCI member CFAO South Africa has shared insights from CEO Mr. Andrew Velleman on the role workplace culture plays in attracting and retaining talent. He explains that while hiring the right people remains an important investment, creating an environment where people choose to stay is just as important.
According to Mr. Andrew Velleman, today's workforce looks beyond competitive salaries and career opportunities. People also value workplaces where they feel respected, supported, and connected to the organization's purpose. A sense of belonging has become an important factor in how people choose employers and in how committed they remain over time.
He notes that this shift is particularly relevant as younger generations continue to shape the workforce. For many individuals, workplace culture now plays a significant role in career decisions and in long-term engagement.
Velleman also explains that culture should form part of an organization's overall business strategy. A positive workplace culture can strengthen employee engagement, support retention, improve resilience, and help organizations adapt to change.
He believes colleagues are more likely to remain with an organization when they can see opportunities for growth, have access to supportive leaders, and feel trusted to contribute. Leadership development, employee engagement, wellness initiatives, and career development all play a role in creating an environment where people can succeed.
Velleman adds that workplace culture is built through everyday interactions. The way leaders communicate, the support colleagues offer one another, and the recognition people receive all influence the employee experience.
As organizations continue to compete for skilled talent, Velleman encourages business leaders to view workplace culture as a strategic priority. Investing in people and creating an inclusive working environment can help businesses strengthen performance, retain valuable skills and support long-term success.
