Alstom sets new benchmarks for supply chain excellence at ASCEA 2025

Driven by a commitment to continuous improvement and forward-thinking processes, Alstom South Africa’s teams were recognised across multiple categories at the 2025 Africa Supply Chain Excellence Awards (ASCEA), for their outstanding contributions to manufacturing, demand planning, innovation, and sustainability. The ASCEA awards were held in Johannesburg on 7 August 2025.

Winning categories background:

Excellence in manufacturing & production management

Alstom’s streamlined painting processes at the Boksburg locomotives car body shell manufacturing site, have delivered significant efficiencies and cost savings, setting a new benchmark for manufacturing excellence in the region. This initiative not only earned top honours at ASCEA 2025 but also won the Alstom in Africa Middle East and Central Asia Region KAIZEN competition, underscoring their dedication to lean manufacturing and process optimisation.

Demand Planning & Management: “Time to Shine”

The “Demand Side, Time to Shine” project at Alstom Ubunye exemplifies Alstom’s data-driven approach to productivity and inventory management. Through refined demand planning, the team achieved R20 million in savings, demonstrating Alstom’s ability to deliver measurable results and drive value through smart supply chain practices.

Innovation, change management & environmental stewardship

Alstom’s commitment to innovation and sustainability was further recognised with Outstanding Achievement Awards in Innovation & Change Management and Environmental Preservation. These accolades reflect Alstom’s proactive adoption of new technologies and sustainable practices, ensuring long-term value for both the business and the communities it serves.
