[Covid-19] | MSF Call to Action

Donate extra or available infrared thermometers, masks, gowns & gloves

See below MSF/Doctors Without Borders Call to action

'The current COVID-19 pandemic has caused great anxiety around the world. Each of us is affected on a personal level, whether by restrictions, concerns about family and friends or directly in terms of risk or access to healthcare. In this trying time human inter-dependence and solidarity remains the most critical factor for success or failure – around the world and here in South Africa. Decisive action can make all the difference – individually and collectively.

While the number of confirmed cases in South Africa are still relatively low in comparison to the current outbreaks recorded in Europe, South Africa and its region will have extra barriers to overcome. The majority of countries in our region have very fragile health systems. As such, ensuring prevention and infection control measures are in place, setting up screening and triage, isolation areas, and health education is crucial.

We must also bear in mind that in our resource constrained region, the Covid-19 patients will not be able to access the same level of care, as seen in other countries. Today, the supply situation for absolutely basic personal protection materials is extremely dire. There are no masks, gowns and gloves. But in addition there are no infra -red thermometers. South African health care workers need hundreds of thermometers in order to screen patients for symptoms.

We are making a call to action that anyone who has an extra or available infrared thermometer can donate it to MSF or any other medical organization. Thank you for your solidarity with the health care workers in this difficult moment.'
