Government Sets Date for 2024 General Elections

South African government has officially announced that the 2024 General National and Provincial elections will take place on May 29, 2024. This decision aligns with section 49(2) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, in conjunction with section 17 of the Electoral Act of 1998.

Following section 17(2) of the Electoral Act 73 of 1998, the government engaged in consultations with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to determine the most suitable election date.

The significance of the 2024 elections is amplified by the concurrent celebration of South Africa's 30 years of freedom and democracy.

The official proclamation declaring the election date will be issued in due course, marking the commencement of the election process as South Africa prepares to shape its future through the ballot box.
