Le Cap sportif wins the Sustainable Development Prize from the Assembly of French People Abroad 2023
The French South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry would like to congratulate Le Cap sportif for winning the Sustainable Development Prize from the Assembly of French People Abroad 2023.
Le Cap sportif an organisation based in Cape Town, South Africa. Since 2010 the organisation's has been on a mission of promoting and facilitating the practice of sport within the French speaking community, of hosting sporting events and of raising funds to support sports projects in the townships of Cape Town.
This Prize, organised every two years, was established in 1988 with the aim to encourage sustainable entrepreneurship, while highlighting exemplary projects in the field of sustainable development.
Olivier Becht, Minister Delegate to the Minister for Europe and Affairs Foreign Affairs, in charge of Foreign Trade, Attractiveness and French people abroad, handed over the award to Le Cap sportif's Director, Jean-Baptiste Wiroth.
The ceremony was held at the Quai d'Orsay, Paris on October 24, during the 39th session of the Assembly of French People Abroad.
Jean-Baptiste Wiroth told the gathering in Paris that the aim of the organisation is to create the South African Institute of Mechanics.
"We want to promote cycling among disadvantaged populations in particular, but also motivate micro-entrepreneurship and organize training.
"Initially, we will train and equip 100 women bicycle mechanics from the populations of the Cape Townships,” said Wiroth.
"The award of the 1st prize for Sustainable Development from the AFE is for us recognition of the work accomplished with Le Cap Sportif. This first prize will give us credibility to look for funding and partners."
