EnviroServ CEO Lauds Team's Sustainability Efforts and Platinum ISWA Sponsorship
EnviroServ CEO Dean Thompson will head a delegation of the company’s experts at the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA) conference in Cape Town, running from 15 to 18 September. The conference, titled “Waste to Wealth: Solutions for a Sustainable Future,” is a key event in the field of solid waste management, featuring plenary sessions and technical site visits that will attract global waste management professionals, government officials, industry leaders, policymakers, and scientists.
Thompson emphasised the importance of dialogue in achieving sustainable solutions, stating, “At EnviroServ, we believe that finding solutions for a sustainable future starts with conversation. Alongside our shareholder SUEZ, we are proud to be platinum sponsors of a conference that reflects our commitment to these values.”
The EnviroServ team includes Operations Director Nico Vermeulen, Technical Director Esme Gombault, National Laboratory Manager Mahmood Patel, and Head of Public Affairs and Communications Makgabo van Niekerk. They will present on various topics, including the integration of social and environmental value into waste management solutions.
Thompson will participate in a CEO panel discussion titled “The Future of Waste,” where he will highlight EnviroServ’s track record of elevating waste management standards. “Our team has consistently advanced the field by developing circular and innovative solutions to manage complex waste streams across sub-Saharan Africa,” he said. “Participating in ISWA was an obvious choice for us, providing a platform to showcase our efforts and connect with global peers.”
Gombault will lead a session on "Green Landfills: A South African Perspective," focusing on EnviroServ’s initiatives to cut greenhouse gas emissions. Vermeulen will explore the relevance of green landfilling in developing countries from a South African viewpoint. Van Niekerk will discuss the social inclusion of communities in South Africa, and Patel will present on "Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material – Waste to Wealth."
