French business meets City of Tshwane

On Monday 19 August 2019, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. Emmanuel Suquet visited Tshwane House in Pretoria to meet with Executive Mayor of the City of Tshwane, Stevens Mokgalapa, and French companies based in South Africa to discuss opportunities for future partnerships in business, sustainable cities, science and cultural cooperation.

 

Dr. Yves Guenon, chairman of the French South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry also attended the session. Following the formal presentations, break-away groups discussed cooperation in the fields of utilities, urban planning, transport and investment.

 

There are almost 400 French companies and subsidiaries in South Africa, employing about 65 000 people locally. French companies in Tshwane have created jobs and are active in diverse fields, to name a few in automotive (Faurecia), construction products (Saint-Gobain), business services (Webhelp), engineering (Systra), healthcare products (Sanofi) and sports retail (Decathlon). The iconic Gautrain is operated by the French Company RATP Dev through the Bombela Operating Company.

France is currently funding a feasibility study for the City of Tshwane regarding waste management.
