Zero Carbon Charge to Introduce Solar-Powered EV Superchargers
In a landmark move towards sustainable transportation, Zero Carbon Charge (ZCC), a leading supplier of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, has inked a R1-billion deal to bring solar-powered EV superchargers to South Africa.
Under the agreement, ZCC will deploy 120 solar PV-powered charging systems equipped with 480 kW liquid-cooled superchargers supplied by Magic Power and Greencore Energy Solutions.
These cutting-edge charging facilities, known as Zero Carbon Charge, are slated to be operational across the country by late 2025.
Joubert Roux, Co-founder and Director of Zero Carbon Charge, expressed confidence in the project's timeline, with the initial batch of superchargers expected to arrive before July.
Emphasizing the need to bolster South Africa's EV charging infrastructure, Zero Carbon Charge highlighted the limitations of the coal-fired grid in meeting increasing demand.
The company underscored the environmental benefits of transitioning to electric transportation, citing significant reductions in carbon emissions compared to traditional petrol vehicles.
