Aerosud Aims for New Heights in Global Aerospace Manufacturing
The French South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FSACCI) is proud to showcase the ongoing achievements of member company Aerosud, a leading South African aerospace manufacturer supplying some of the world’s top aircraft producers.
Aerosud is Africa’s largest manufacturer of aircraft parts and assemblies, delivering components to global OEMs such as Airbus and Boeing. Its base in South Africa houses vertically integrated operations, with design engineering and production working side by side on one campus. This structure enables the company to respond quickly and efficiently to the evolving needs of its international clients.
Russel Grefen, Aerosud’s Chief Operating Officer, describes the business as a flexible and dependable partner:
“OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers see us as a one-stop shop,” he says. “We do everything from simple metallic manufacturing to textiles. Our independence and in-house capabilities have helped us overcome the challenges of geographic distance.”
The company has invested in advanced technology to meet industry demands. Its aluminium welding capabilities and digital tools for supply chain management are key strengths. Aerosud is also the sole supplier of critical parts like track cans, and it is currently working with Airbus and Spirit Aerosystems to scale production for the A320 aircraft.
Aerosud understands the importance of its people. With less reliance on automation, it has focused on building strong internal teams and improving workplace culture. A recent partnership with behavioural science firm Grid International is helping the company align values and boost performance.
“You can invest in machines, but if you can’t get people to align, you won’t be productive,” adds Grefen.
Looking ahead, Aerosud is seeking an industrial partner to support its expansion into new markets and OEM networks. The company has also undergone internal restructuring to enhance leadership and operational efficiency.
