Back To | South Africa’s Economic Outlook for 2024

The French South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FSACCI) in collaboration with the Regional Economic Service attached to the French Embassy in South Africa hosted a workshop on the Economic Outlook of 2024 on Thursday, March 7, 2024, afternoon.

Keynote speakers included Thibault Dornon, Head of Regional Economic Service for Southern Africa attached to the French Embassy in South Africa, and Willenbucher Antoine, Economic and Financial Advisor.

Thibault emphasized South Africa's regional significance, ranking third in Africa behind Nigeria and Egypt. He noted that South Africa is the only African country that is a member of BRICS and G20, holding the presidency in 2025.

Antoine highlighted the potential of South Africa's economic growth through its untapped youth population resources.

With a population of 62 million in 2022, a growth of nearly 20% over the past decade (StatsSA), and improvements in life expectancy to 65 years in 2021 compared to 58 years in 2011 (UN), the workshop discussed various issues post the budget speech by Minister of Finance, Enoch Godongwana. These include accelerating the roll-out of infrastructure projects, firming up public companies, and energy transition.

FSACCI looks forward to hosting more workshops with the Regional Economic Service throughout the year.
