 Air France-KLM and TotalEnergies Expand SAF Partnership

Air France-KLM and TotalEnergies, both platinum members of the French South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FSACCI), have strengthened their partnership to accelerate the decarbonization of air transport.

The two companies have signed an agreement for TotalEnergies to supply up to 1.5 million tons of more sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to Air France-KLM Group airlines over 10 years. Air France-KLM aims to incorporate at least 10% of SAF on all its flights by 2030.

  • Significant SAF supply: TotalEnergies will supply up to 1.5 million tons of SAF to Air France-KLM Group airlines over 10 years.
  • Decarbonization goals: Both companies aim to reduce the environmental impact of air transport by reducing CO2 emissions.
  • SAF production: TotalEnergies will produce SAF in its French and European biorefineries and refineries.
  • Sustainable sourcing: Air France-KLM has a strict sourcing policy for SAF, ensuring it does not compete with global food production.
  • Emission reduction: SAF can reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 90% compared to fossil fuels.

  • La Mède: Investing 340 million euros to transform the refinery into a biorefinery.

Air France-KLM's commitment to sustainability:

  • CO2 reduction: Aiming to reduce CO2 emissions per passenger/km by 30% compared with 2019 levels.
  • SAF incorporation: Incorporating at least 10% of SAF on all flights by 2030.
