New Member | French Institute of South Africa

The French Institute of South Africa (IFAS) is the cultural and cooperation branch of the French Embassy in South Africa, Lesotho and Malawi. Established in 1995, IFAS embodies France’s commitment to long-term cultural partnership and exchange across the continent. Over 30 years, it has evolved into a dynamic platform where art, education, science and innovation intersect.

IFAS supports more than 70 annual projects spanning performing and visual arts, film, design, language education and creative entrepreneurship. Flagship initiatives include Fête de la Musique, the Absa L’Atelier Gérard Sekoto Award, Création Africa, and Futures_Past, all aimed at promoting creative industries, immersive storytelling and youth empowerment. Dibukafé in Braamfontein serves as a third space for learning, dialogue and cultural exchange.

IFAS is available to collaborate with companies and institutions to co-create events and programmes that align with partners’ values and audiences. It welcomes partnerships, in-kind support and sponsorships to advance its mission of building inclusive, innovative and sustainable cultural cooperation between France and southern Africa.
