UNESCO and the Department of Water and Sanitation honour EnviroServ for its achievements

With deep roots in responsible waste management, EnviroServ has always been committed to safeguarding the environment. The company is now proud to extend that commitment beyond waste and into the vital space of water stewardship.

At the 50th anniversary celebration of UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme (IHP), EnviroServ was honoured to stand alongside leading organisations and individuals driving water conservation and education across South Africa. EnviroServ Waste Management was recognised by the South African National Committee (SANC) for the UNESCO IHP and the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) for its contribution to water conservation and education.

All of EnviroServ’s Community Liaison Officers participated in the national Photo Story Competition on Citizen Science for Water, demonstrating the company’s belief that communities are at the heart of sustainable change.

EnviroServ is especially proud that entries from its Eastern Cape communities were recognised among the top ten nationally – earning the company two awards in the Water and Education categories. EnviroServ was the only organisation to receive two awards, a distinction that highlights both its strategic investment in community engagement and its growing role in the water space.

With more than 70 entries submitted, the competition provided a powerful platform for authentic, community-driven storytelling. The top 20 photo stories are featured in a dedicated Photo Story Book and are on display at the UNISA Art Gallery from 9–11 September 2025.

This recognition reinforces EnviroServ’s view that empowered communities are powerful partners in protecting natural resources and tackling climate change. Through its Corporate Social Investment initiatives, EnviroServ will continue to champion environmental education, support grassroots action, and build a future where waste, water, and climate challenges are addressed in an integrated, sustainable way.
