Interwaste Unveils First-of-its-Kind Leachate and Effluent Treatment Plant in South Africa
Interwaste, a leading South African waste management company and a platinum member of the French South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FSACCI), on Wednesday 10 April announced the launch of its R100-million, state-of-the-art Leachate and Effluent Treatment Plant in Delmas, Mpumalanga.
This groundbreaking facility marks a significant leap forward in environmental stewardship and resource recovery for the country.
The plant represents a significant innovation in waste treatment, designed to accept and treat various effluent waste streams from industries like manufacturing, mining, and oil and gas.
Engineered with advanced technologies, the plant boasts the ability to not only effectively treat these waste streams but also recover an impressive 80-90% as clean, reusable water.
"We celebrate a monumental achievement in the realm of sustainable waste management ," said Jason McNeil, CEO at Interwaste. "Our new treatment plant is not just a testament to our commitment to environmental sustainability but also a testament to the power of collaboration between local expertise and global knowledge."
The Interwaste Leachate and Effluent Treatment Plant employs a multi-stage treatment process that ensures efficient contaminant removal while maximizing water recovery.
Key features include the ability to treat various liquid waste types, bespoke pre-treatment processes, and advanced filtration systems.
The plant is designed with sustainability in mind, with minimal waste generation and responsible chemical usage. "We are extremely proud of this innovation," said McNeil.
"It align to the Group’s sustainability strategy of water reduction, biodiversity preservation and circular economy thinking but addresses the pressing need for effective liquid waste treatment while setting a precedent for sustainable practices within the industry."
