Overstrand Municipality wins Green Drop Award for Outstanding Wastewater Management by Veolia

In South Africa, Veolia is proud to announce that Overstrand Municipality, whose Infrastructure Services are operated by the Group, has been recognised for exceptional performance in water quality and wastewater management, claiming top honours at the Green Drop Awards.

The Municipality's Infrastructure Services Directorate achieved 1st place in the Best Municipal Technical Site Assessment 2025 for the Hawston Wastewater Treatment Plant, and was further recognised as one of the Top 4 Municipalities for Wastewater Treatment in South Africa - a remarkable achievement that underscores the shared commitment of Veolia and Overstrand Municipality to service excellence and sustainable water management.

The award was presented at an event where Water and Sanitation Minister Pemmy Majodina released the highly anticipated Green Drop Report, accompanied by progress reports on the Blue Drop and No Drop programmes. The occasion provided a comprehensive national update on South Africa's drinking water quality, service provision, and wastewater management performance across municipalities.

The Green Drop, Blue Drop, and No Drop programmes serve as key national assessment tools that:
● Track municipal performance in wastewater management, drinking water quality, and water use efficiency
● Recognise and celebrate top-performing municipalities
● Highlight areas requiring improvement
● Guide targeted support where it is most needed

Through a combination of expertise, innovation, and partnership, Veolia, a global leader in environmental services, is helping to transform municipal service delivery ensuring that residents receive the reliable, high-quality services they deserve. This recognition is a proud milestone for Veolia in South Africa and a testament to the strength of a long-standing partnership with Overstrand Municipality.
