Stratogo shifts waste management HR model to performance-based Functional Outsourcing

Stratogo has marked a strategic shift in how it supports South Africa’s waste management and recycling sector. Whilst South Africa’s waste management and recycling industry is entering a new phase, one defined by increasing regulatory pressure, operational complexity, and the growing imperative for efficiency and sustainability, traditional labour-intensive workforce models are being reassessed in favour of more agile and performance-driven approaches.

After years of providing Temporary Employment Services to major industry players, the company expansion into Functional Outsourcing reflects a strategic move toward managing entire operational processes.

Together, these flexibility solutions form an integrated ecosystem that enhances operational continuity, strengthens compliance, and supports strategic scalability across the waste and recycling value chain. By adopting a hybrid model tailored to operational realities, organisations can improve productivity, maintain competitiveness, and future‑proof their workforce against industry transformation.

Stratogo now manages defined processes and measurable outputs across multiple waste collection, sorting and recycling sites in South Africa. Under this flexible model, operations are driven by performance indicators such as volumes processed and tons sorted, rather than headcount and hours worked.

Clients contract for outcomes, not labour time. Stratogo takes responsibility for managing workflow, productivity targets, and resource allocation within the agreed scope. The company operates across a broad waste spectrum, including collection, sorting and recycling of various waste streams.

The Functional Outsourcing model focuses on efficiency, cost control and measurable gains. Importantly, while this model is being applied within the waste and recycling sector, its relevance extends far beyond. Industries such as logistics, retail, mass catering, and ICT,  all facing similar pressures around efficiency, compliance, and flexibility, are beginning to explore comparable approaches.

For business leaders, this signals a broader shift: Outsourced Labour strategy is no longer solely about resource allocation, but about designing systems that deliver measurable performance, adaptability, and long-term value in an increasingly complex operating environment
