Samuel Ducroquet Appointed Consul General of France in Johannesburg

Samuel Ducroquet assumed his duties as Consul General of France in Johannesburg on September 1, 2025.
Before his appointment, M. Ducroquet served as Ambassador for Sport at the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs from January 2023 to August 2025. He also held a senior management position with the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games Organising Committee, overseeing the dignitary programme between January 2022 and January 2023. From 2018 to 2021, he was Sports Counsellor and Olympic and Paralympic Attaché at the French Embassy in Japan, following a post as Political Counsellor at the French Embassy in Qatar from 2015 to 2018.
Earlier in his diplomatic career, M. Ducroquet worked in the European Union Department of the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, serving in both the Internal and Institutional Affairs Division and the External Relations Division. He began his career at the Permanent Representation of France to the European Union in Brussels.
M. Ducroquet holds a Master’s degree in Politics and Government in the EU from the London School of Economics and is a graduate of the Institut d’Études Politiques de Lille. He is a Knight of the French National Order of Merit.
Under his leadership, the Consulate General will continue to strengthen cooperation between French and South African partners, including embassy services, economic and cultural organisations, and educational institutions. The Consulate will also focus on supporting French businesses and investments in South Africa, promoting economic exchange between the two countries.
The Visas service, now centralised in Johannesburg for South Africa, Lesotho, Namibia, Botswana, and Zambia, form part of France’s broader effort to enhance its regional presence and attract partnerships across Southern Africa.
The Consulate remains dedicated to assisting French nationals abroad through civil registration, identity documents, and support services, while also maintaining its role in organising national and European elections and supporting French associations in Johannesburg.
