Benjamin Cabouat Appointed Deputy Head of Mission at the French Embassy in South Africa 

Benjamin Cabouat has been appointed Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of France in South Africa. A career diplomat, he brings extensive international and institutional experience to this new posting. 

Before arriving in South Africa, he was based at the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong, where he served as Cooperation and Cultural Counsellor. His diplomatic career includes key roles at the Embassy of France in India as Political Counsellor and at the Permanent Mission of France to the United Nations in New York in the same capacity. 

At the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France in Paris, Cabouat served as Officer at the Directorate for Legal Affairs. He was later appointed Assistant Deputy Director at the Human Resources Department, contributing to strategic and administrative responsibilities within the ministry. 

Cabouat holds a Master’s degree in Public Economic Law and a Master’s degree in Public Law from Paris-Panthéon-Assas University. He also holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Sciences Po Lille. 

In his new role, Cabouat supports the mission of the French Embassy in strengthening relations between France and South Africa. His responsibilities include supporting political and diplomatic engagement, developing bilateral cooperation, and contributing to cultural and economic initiatives. 

The French Embassy plays an important role in maintaining and expanding the longstanding ties between the two countries. It works closely with the French business community, government partners, and civil society. Cabouat’s diplomatic background and legal expertise position him to contribute to this ongoing work. 

The French South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry welcomes Cabouat to South Africa and looks forward to continued engagement between the Embassy, the French community, and the business network. This appointment strengthens the shared commitment to deepen the partnership between France and South Africa across political, economic, and cultural spheres.
