Fête de la Musique 2026 brings live music to Cape Town, Pretoria and Johannesburg

The French Institute of South Africa (IFAS), a member of the French South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry, will present Fête de la Musique across three South African cities in 2026, bringing together artists, cultural partners and audiences through a shared programme of live music.
Created in France in 1982, Fête de la Musique is now celebrated in more than 120 countries. Its principle is simple: free music for all. Open to musicians of all levels and audiences of every age, the festival encourages live performance in public space and makes music accessible beyond conventional venues.
The 2026 programme begins in Cape Town on 29 March, when the festival takes place for the first time in the city as part of the Bree Street Sundays initiative.
The programme continues in Pretoria on 13 June, hosted by the Alliance Française of Pretoria, before returning to Victoria Yards in Johannesburg on 20 June for its 15th edition in the city.
Presented by IFAS with partners including Bassline, TotalEnergies South Africaand local cultural organisations, Fête de la Musique supports artistic exchange while strengthening connections between cultural institutions, creative professionals and communities across South Africa.
