Forvis Mazars hosted its 2026 Budget Breakfast on Friday, 27 February 2026, at the Four Seasons Hotel The Westcliff in Johannesburg, to unpack the key points of the 2026/2027 National Treasury Budget Speech. The seated event brought together C-level and executive leaders.
The session was held in a panel format. It provided a cross‑disciplinary analysis, sharing insights on how fiscal policy, governance trends, and economic direction intersect to shape South Africa’s business landscape.
Tshiamo Masike, Economist at Momentum Investments, addressed key macroeconomic trends. Drawing on her experience at the South African Reserve Bank, she translated complex fiscal data into practical considerations for business.
Advocate Mtho Xulu, President of the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry, focused on the operating environment for business. He spoke about corporate governance and the role of organised business in shaping economic policy.
Forvis Mazars tax specialists provided technical analysis of the budget measures. Althea Soobyah, Partner and National Head of Tax, addressed corporate tax, while Evádne Bronkhorst, Associate Director in Tax Consulting, examined developments in VAT, and global trade.
Professor Richard Calland of The Paternoster Group contributed a political and governance perspective. He discussed the link between policy direction, accountability and economic performance.
The panel was moderated by the dynamic Faith Mangope. She steered the conversation toward policy certainty and structural reform, and facilitated engagement between the panel and the audience.
The event formed part of Forvis Mazars’ annual engagement with the business community following the national budget announcement.
